Crete Academy Founders meet with Tapestry LA Church staff and volunteers

Each project that we have around the world has a Local Partner organization that is the “boots on the ground” for implementing our program in their communities. These Local Partners are essential in understanding each unique culture and adapting our program to the specific needs of that community. This project will be no different.

Crete Academy is a charter school in South Los Angeles that is dedicated to meeting the physical, mental, and emotional needs of children who are homeless and living in poverty. Founders Hattie and Brett Mitchell’s goal is to provide resources and supportive services to every student, so they have the opportunity to succeed and thrive, despite their circumstances.

Tapestry LA Church has been partnering with Crete Academy to help meet the needs of their student body for some time now. From volunteer efforts, to financial support, to supplying a food pantry for families in need,Tapestry LA is committed to not only providing relief, but also understanding the disparities that created this impoverished community in the first place.

But making a lasting impact on this community isn’t just about the kids.  Their parents need support too! Hope Ventures will be working with Tapestry LA and Crete Academy to identify aspiring entrepreneurs for a 6-month training program that will train participants to launch and grow sustainable businesses and pair them with experienced business mentors.

This program will help struggling parents increase their self-sufficiency and create a brighter future for their families. You can give the gift of opportunity today by supporting this ongoing program.

Check out the video below to watch our Board Member, Jane Oaks, announce the launch of this exciting project at a recent Tapestry LA Church service and learn how our partnership will help families in South LA to flourish through entrepreneurship.
