Business Start up Program
Poverty is real. So is their potential.
Malawi is known for its reputation as the “warm heart of Africa”, where people are friendly and smiles are abundant. Yet with a rich cultural heritage and peaceful governance, it still faces significant challenges in economy, energy, climate, and health sectors. Half of the population struggles to provide for their basic needs, but their story doesn’t end there.
Malawi is focused on transforming into a self-reliant, industrialized country by seeking improvements in education, energy, agriculture, health and tourism.
The Need
Despite innovation and a steady decrease in poverty over the past several years, families in Malawi continue to struggle.
80% of the population relies on agriculture as their livelihoods, which is regularly threatened by recurring droughts.
While great progress has been made in healthcare and food security, over 30% of children are impacted by malnutrition. The recent 40% devaluation of the country’s currency along with significant inflation have not helped.
Families are in critical need of opportunities to launch sustainable businesses to impact the lives of their families and communities.
the opportunity
After three successful years and over 60 graduates, Hope Ventures continues to work with local partners in Malawi to conduct a year long entrepreneur business start-up program.
Your generosity will help 20 determined entrepreneurs move toward the launch and growth of sustainable businesses.
Program participants not only receive business training but also essential mentoring in the start and growth of their businesses.
Our partnership with the Hope Business Hub, a Malawian lead community development organization, seeks to provide holistic support to young adults and young families of Malawi, leading to economic, environmental and social transformation that brings about flourishing communities.
